I have just health insurance. I do not have dental coverage. I desperately need my wisdom teeth extracted (they are coming in). Would regular health insurance cover this surgery or not? And in general - how much would this procedure cost me?
Insurance coverage question....?
You don't always have to have your wisdom teeth extracted. I've had mine for over 30 years and have no problem with them. They are usually a natural part of development. They will keep you from having a sunken-in face when you get a lot older! They do serve a purpose.
Reply:normal health insurance will not cover dental work...i just had to have mine surgically cut out (all four) and i used a oral surgeon instead of a normal dentist b/c i wanted to be put to sleep-my threshold for pain is terrible....
my dental insurance did cover most of it but it was still about 130.00 for my copay-total cost was about 450.00. so if you just went to a regular dentist and paid for it out of pocket my guess is around 200-300 would be about what it would cost. but call around your area to several different dentists-each one might have a different price for private paying patients and some can even set you up on a payment plan so you don't have to pay it all at once...
it is best to get them pulled-mine kept getting infected b/c they didnt come in all the way so food was getting trapped underneath my gums-it was awful, hurt horribly and for weeks at a time....
Reply:You need to do some shopping for this answer but not here. Call various oral surgeons in your area and get an idea of price, but before doing so, visit your dentist and share your concerns. The cost of wisdom tooth extraction can vary depending on where in the country you are located. Most people do indeed eventually have their wisdom teeth removed. Sometimes, this will be covered under health insurance if there are other complications with the teeth. Check with some local dentists and oral surgeons. You might also want to ask your parents.
