Why is dental insurance so much more expensive than medical insurance?
The thing is, insurance companies are in BUSINESS and they want to make a PROFIT. They know exactly how much any given group is going to spend for their dental needs, so they construct a fee schedule for that group and decide how much premium that they will need to charge to pay out those fees for that group and still make money. Dental insurance can be a big loser for the insurance companies, because EVERYONE has dental problems. Not everyone has a heart attack.

It is extremely difficult to find dental insurance that is worth buying if you are not getting it as part of a group through employment.
Reply:Dental work is usually more expensive than health care. Now, I don't mean that a cleaning costs more than some surgery; I just mean that a regular dental check up costs more than a regular phyisican's check up. However, this is made worse by the fact that there are not many dental programs to choose from, which can keep prices high as with any product. A lot of companies don't even offer dental coverage. If you have a company that does, or if you have a company that runs their own program consider yourself lucky, because it can be rare.
