Divorce and health care coverage?

I'm getting a divorce. My spouse still carries me on his medical insurance coverage, since I'm currently unemployed. He has no dental coverage for us and I need to see a dentist. When we were married, he would pay my dental bills out of pocket. Can he still pay for my dental bill if I'm seen by a dentist? Can I send the bill to his lawyer to give to him? Thanks.

I'm sure he COULD pay your dental bill, but considering that you're getting divorced, he may not want to. Unless there's a specific agreement between you two to have him pay you health and dental expenses, you're probably out of luck.
Reply:This is definitely something to discuss with your lawyer. The dental insurance policy nor the dentist decides who is financially responsible. The judge or decision made outside of court deems that. Most offices rule you, the patient, as the person financially responsible, because they don't get involved in legal issues.
Reply:You'll have to ask your attorney to consider this in your settlement requests but I doubt your ex will volunteer to cover anything he doesn't have to.

You can check on this:

Health Centers provide health and dental care to people of all ages, whether or not they have health insurance or the money to pay for health care.

You can look around for a clinic associated with a dental school OR a community college that trains dental hygienists as they work with REAL dentists on REAL patients who need REAL treatment and pay a substantially reduced amount.

If you're near the Mexican border, LOTS of dentists, much cheaper, excellent quality, and yes they speak English and it's safe to go.

You can also call around. I have never had dental insurance. My brother does and his CO-PAY for a crown is about $500 and the benefits are VERY limited--he exceeds them every year and pays out of pocket. I found a legit dentist who charges $500 for a crown period. NO messing with insurance--by not playing their games he provides quality care at a reasonable price about half of what others do. Insurance costs our society a bundle when it's run wrong as it is typically.
