I'm not sure how soon she will need it, she is 5 weeks old.
if not now, when should I add her approximately?
I'm adding my newborn to my insurance, does she need dental coverage?
You should add her when she's 2-3 years of age. It's a waste of money to have her on the policy when she doesn't even have teeth :)
Reply:No, not now; probably not for 2 or 3 years. Some family policies automatically cover children.
Reply:a child should typically see a dentist some time between the first tooth erupting and their first birthday, so as soon as possible...copy this link to read more...
Reply:Does it cost to add your child? For us, there was no additional cost, so I added both of our children. But I agree with what others have posted, that you likely will not need dental care for your 5wk old for a while.
Reply:A child should have their first dental visit at 12 months or 6 months after the first teeth erupt whichever is first.
There is also a small chance the teeth will come in very early which means they won't have fully developed enamel or that other dental problems could occur.
Also in some cases the longer you have the insurance the higher the amount they will cover. And frankly pediatric dentists are incredibly expensive. I would have paid around $4,000 at this point and my son is only 20 months old. Although if I had had real insurance instead of public insurance it probably wouldn't have taken as long to see a dentist so it might have only been $2,000.

When should I start taking my child to the dentist?
Take your child for a first dental visit within six months of the first baby tooth and by no later than the first birthday. This gives the dentist a chance to look for early tooth problems and to talk to you about how to care for your baby's teeth. It also helps your child feel okay in the dentist's office.
