Health Insurance?!?!?

I am having to get my own health insurance for the first time. Can someone help me figure all of this out? What should I be looking for? I am young and healthy, so I would not like to pay that much, but I would like to feel confidant in my coverage. Also, I will need dental coverage-any info there??

Thanks so much!

Health Insurance?!?!?
The dental coverage you can buy out there on a private policy will USUALLY end up costing you more than it will pay out in benefits. When you get your quotes, add up carefully the monthly premiums, and deduct what they cover - keep in mind there are hefty copays and deductibles. You'll usually see that it's cheaper to pay out of pocket for dental.

For insurance, go to your local, independent agent - he'll have a pretty good idea who has the best affordable plan in your area, and can also market out a major medical policy if that's more to your taste, AND he can explain the differences in coverage.
Reply:Hi Rita:

Depends on where you are. If you are in California, you likely qualify for excellent, inexpensive insurance from Kaiser. If your income is too high for that, I would recommend Blue Shield, for Major Medical. Aflac can be used to subsidize it and receive dental and optical. Good Luck.
Reply:are you employed? if you are young and healthy, i'd probably sign up for a high deductible plan and a Health Savings account. Its money that can travel with you from employer to employer and covers any out of pocked medical expense. A LOT more companies are going that route and u'd be ahead of hte game. Plus why pay for great insurance if you never use it,
Reply:1st suggestion: get health insurance through an employer;

2nd suggestion: if no employer, join a group or organization which offers group health insurance (example: AAA, numerous professional or even charitable organizations);

3rd suggestion: if you do not join any group and try to get the insurance on your own, you will pay higher premiums for lower benefits. Ask the company which insures your car or your home about "umbrella coverage".

Finally: Take a deep breath and get ready to be frustrated. Health insurance companies are notorius for not processing claims correctly and dragging their feet to pay claims. Welcome to the club.

Good luck!

Reply:Rita,

You can get a medical discount card for $49.95 a month. It would include the vision, prescription, chiropractic, and dental services that you would need.

Go to http://www.qualitymedicalcare.org

Make sure to click on Locate a Provider to make sure that there are providers in your area.

Then you can click on Join Now to get your savings started!
Reply:Don't be confuses by medical discount programs they are not insurance. See the attached link.

mbrcatz1 has the clearest, best advice for you. I am assuming that the reason you are looking is because there is no group plan available to you, or you would have done that already, right?

Follow her advice and look for someone local that knows what your area has to offer. Explain your health and financial situation. Let them find the coverage that will meet your needs.
