Medicaid?????

I'm pregnant and I received my medicaid card in the mail but I also received a letter saying I should apply for additional benefits for my baby which includes everything even dental coverage. Shouldn't medicaid cover for everything for me and the baby?

Medicaid?????
You'd think. But most states have addtional programs for children that require separate paperwork.
Reply:they may mean to apply for your baby when it is born
Reply:No, to be specific, Medicare will cover some of these things and another Federal program called WICK, this is for dairy products and extras like formula for the infant and other things, and, there injections for the babies, nurses visits and other things like this, Lot's of things will cover the baby and you.
Reply:Medicaid only covers you. Your state Chips program will cover the baby.
Reply:Generally speaking Medicaid covers you and there is normally a separate program that covers your baby. Speak with your case worker and they can explain to you how to get these. For example, here in New Mexico the program is called New Mexikids and basically IS Medicaid, but you still have to apply for your baby separately.

Good luck to you and congratulations on your new addition!
Reply:Not necessarily. At least in parts of New York, you are required to sign up with a managed care plan - which is actually beneficial to the patients, because not every provider takes straight medicaid. (I know for some pediatric specialties, you have to go sit in a clinic that's open like twice a week, and hope you don't have to spend the whole day there.) So, by having a managed care plan, you have a wider range of providers to choose from, and you can get additional benefits because of that.
Reply:No. It's just for you. They can't cover your baby, because your baby has not been born yet.
