A question for Canadians please?

Can you please explain a little about Universal health care. What services are really covered, Like Chiropratice care? Medications? Diagostic procedures? non-life threatening surgeries? Pre-natal care? On the adverage how long does it take to get an appointment with a doctor? How good is dental coverage? Does Universal health care cover eye glasss, Eye testing? I would really appriciate your inout! Thank you!

A question for Canadians please?
I live in Canada, prenatal care is covered, totally, when I was pregnant I had an appt every three months in the beginning, every two months afterwards, plus I had 2 ultrasounds, pkus a few other tests, all was covered. Chiropractic care is not covered. All diagnostic procedures are covered, as well as any surgeries, besides cosmetic procedures.

Medication is not covered. It covers one eye exam every two years, but not glasses. My doctor is amazing and I usually have to wait about 3 days for an appt. If it is something urgent they will fit me in. So basically, all doctor appointments, diagnostic procedures, prenantal care and surgeries are covered. Dental is not covered unless you have a plan. My husband pays $30 a month for his health insurance at work and it cover 80% of dentistry, 80% of medications and pretty well 80% of anything else health care doesn't, unless it is cosmetic.

Cosmetic surgery will be covered as long as it is needed.
Reply:Wikipedia has a great synopsis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_an... (I know, everyone hates Wikipedia...but sometimes it just works)
Reply:anything life threatening, or anything treated by a GP.

It does not include elective or cosmetic procedures.

Chiopractic was included up until last year, but has been shifted to most company benefits programs instead.

Eye care has also been listed as elective and offloaded to private health benefits.

This has reduced the percentage of people going for the sake of going to the doctor, and people with resident status but no longer live in Canada coming for free health care.

The abusers have done some damage, but we are trying to correct that now. This includes pictures on the health cards.
Reply:it's all covered, but your taxes will go up a little, then a little more, then a lot, then a lot more. Also there will be inflation because rich people like their money so when they have to pay higher taxes they will charge you more for their products and services. The amount of time it takes to get an operation will depend on what country you'll have to go to that doesn't have universal health care.
Reply:Eye-glasses and testing aren't covered by universal health care, this would be covered under some kind of benefits at your work if you have them. Dental is the same thing, chiropractic too.
Reply:wow umm i live in alberta so alberta health care covers doctor visits, including prenatal and pediatrition visits (and of course the actual delivering the baby costs) and family doctors are all over the place and usually a couple of days for an appointment, or you can just walk in. but it doesnt cover glasses, or prescriptions, or chiropractic care, or ambulances. but for $44 dollars a month you can get blue cross which does cover everything.
Reply:In Canada the various levels of government pay for about 70% of Canadians' health care costs, which is about average for a developed country. Canada is unusual in that the government pays for almost 100% of hospital and physician care, but contributes very little in areas such as prescription drug costs and dental care. Your personal health insurance would pay 80% of your expenses towards prescription, dental expenses and eye check up.
