How much were your wisdom teeth extractions?

Currently a poor college student, of course with no adequate dental coverage. I am in the process of pulling out (2) wisdom teeth and am wondering how much were the total charges? I'm talking pure charges here, before your insurance took care of anything. Also, please indicate how many you decided to take out, and which anesthetic you chose (IV vs. local or both). Thanks a Bunch.

How much were your wisdom teeth extractions?
I had ONE wisdom tooth removed, it was impacted - so HAD to be removed.

I had both the general anesthesia and the local - this was recommended, because he had to slice my gum open with a scalpel, hammer the tooth, excavate it and sew me back up.

The total cost was $900. This excludes consultation and possible 360 x-ray, that was an additional $170.

The surgeon recommended for me to take all four wisdom teeth out, but I decided against it. It must be noted that the anaesthesia where I went to charged per 15 minute sessions, so in a way - it would make more sense to remove ALL of them at once.
Reply:I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled last year. I believe that the bill was just over $1,000.00 dollars before insurance. I was given only an IV medication and put into a "twilight" state, which was weird, yet affective.
Reply:it depends. if your wisdom tooth is impacted or erupted. impacted wisdom tooth are in abnormal position and may need surgery. while erupted are wisdom tooth in normal position and may easily be pulled out just like any other tooth, but dentists usually have higher rates for wisdom tooth even if the extraction are just the same process
Reply:Hi, I just had four pulled and it was with an IV under general anesthetic. The total cost was $1200 out of my pocket (been saving for awhile to pay it). I don't have insurance either, I have a Careington dental discount, and it knocked $300 off the price. I am in college too so I feel your pain. If you cannot afford this, why don't you try a dental school? One of my friends is, and she said they are only charging her around $800 to get four impacted teeth pulled. Good luck!
