I don't have dental insurance so crowning of a tooth would be financially impossible right now. I went to a new dentist for a routine dental cleaning because they had a cheap dental plan. She said my one tooth would need to be crowned bc the filling was deep (however all my fillings seem to be the same size). She asked me if the tooth hurt and I told her no it doesn't bother me. So she said I had a slight cavity in the tooth and decided to refill it. Ever since I've had major sensitivity. Biting down feels wierd. I am afraid of phsycially breaking the tooth.
So I guess I was wondering since the tooth didn't bother me then but bothers me now did she make it worse? Should I get it crowned (pending when or if I get dental coverage) And does a crown require a root canal? I hate going to the dentist!
Dentist said tooth needs crowning?
If you had a decay on that filling it needed to be filled again. If she had left like that you might have developed and infection and then your tooth would have to come out. The only time that you need a root canal is if the decay in your tooth is so bad that it is touching the root aka the nerve of your tooth.
And no, a crown does not require a root canal before it can be placed, it goes back to the depth of the decay. Also if it is bothering you that much, go back to the dentist and have her check it out to make sure that filling has not broken or something similar. Ciao!
