Is it normal for my son's adult tooth to appear behind his baby tooth?

My son is almost seven and hasn't had a loose tooth yet. Just recently I looked inside his mouth and noticed something weird. He actually has an adult tooth growing in behind one of his lower baby teeth! The baby tooth doesn't even seem loose. I tried wiggling and nothing! He doesn't have dental coverage so I'm not sure about taking him to a dentist, but I'm worried about his teeth growing in crooked. Has this happened to any of you and if so, what was the result? Thanks!

that is very bad that tooth will begin to push on his teeth and mess all the teeth up not only that but an infection could set in and that is one thing you do not want. most likely the tooth will not come out it will have to be pulled by a dentist the longer you wait the wosrse it will get.
Reply:My younger brother had that, the dentist told him it was kind of like "shark teeth" where they grow behind the old set of teeth. My brother is 14 now, he had to get braces, and he has to get a tooth or two removed because his mouth is overcrowded...

Good luck!
Reply:That has happened to my kids, and usually the dentist has to "help" the baby tooth out. Check with your state. There may be programs for kids who don't have insurance. This is something that really needs a dentist. Good luck!
Reply:This happens very frequently. The adult tooth came in a little off angle and so the baby tooth was not resorbed away.

Unfortunately, you need to have the baby tooth removed so that the adult tooth can get into its proper position. You and your son can try to wiggle the tooth, but if there is a substantial amount of root left, it won't help. You will need a dentist to freeze and extract the tooth.
Reply:I agree with Dave, since the tooth did not come straight out it never pushed the baby tooth, which is why the baby tooth is not loose. Chances are he just needs to have the baby tooth extracted (removed) and since the adult tooth is barely coming out it still has a good chance of straigtening out once the space is clear. But you definately should take him to a Dentist. For an exam on the specific area and to have a baby tooth removed should not run you no more that $250. That is on the very High end. Usually to remove a baby tooth it starts at $70+ sometimes even cheaper!! Just depends on the Dentist. I recommend you make this investment, because if not attended it could result in an even higher expense ... braces, retainer, etc. I'm a dental office administrator, trust me with worth the couple hundred right now. Good Luck.
